High IQ Pro software FAQs
Here are our most frequency asked questions

Can I increase my IQ in less than 20 days?
You can gain in your IQ from around 12 days of training up to 20 days. You can see the IQ gains as a function of days of training in this graph. It is clear from this graph that it is worth following the training through for the full 20 days for maximum effect.

What do I do in the High IQ Pro® brain training?
High IQ Pro® is a what is called a ’working memory’ training task. Working memory is short term memory for holding in mind items of information to perform a task while ignoring distractions. It is the memory system used by fluid intelligence in reasoning and problem solving. In the training you are exercising your working memory in a task known by psychologists as the ‘dual n-back’. It is a game that continually adapts to your level of practice, and you get continually updated graphical feedback on your performance which helps with motivation.
Designing this ‘dual n-back’ task as an effective method for targeting fluid intelligence took more than a decade of research in cognitive science. Your mental sharpness will increase in just one training session. A landmark research paper summarizing this research can be found here [click on icon].
Is the training task difficult? Is it fun?
High IQ Pro® cannot be too difficult or too easy, regardless of your starting ability. The program continually adjusts to match your current ability level based on the feedback it gets on your performance. This ensures that the task always remains challenging and motivating. Some people think it is fun and even addictive. Others find it difficult, but highly rewarding. This training software results in real gains in intelligence, and results in real changes in your brain; like physical exercise, it involves a real commitment, but like physical exercise, it can be a buzz – particularly if you are training with others.
How long does the training take?
20 days of training, half an hour per day. You can do this in 20 continuous days, or take weekends off over a four weeks. Taking weekends off may help the practice effects ‘consolidate’ – that is, become established as new neural connections. The original scientific study demonstrating the IQ gains used a 5 day week (and weekends off) training regime.
How long will the effects of training last?
Since the training affects the brain’s ‘plasticity’, resulting in long term changes in the neural connections in intelligence related centers in your brain [journal article link], there is solid evidence that the effects are long-lasting – although it is unlikely that the IQ gains will persist at the same level indefinitely for months without additional ‘top up’ training. Based on users experience, the effects are long-lasting, but like the effects of training that make you highly physically fit, will drop off over the weeks, unless you keep up a basic – although lower intensity – training program.
Can I take breaks in my training schedule?
You can take 2 days break for every week’s training, but we do not suggest having larger breaks to get the full training benefits. It doesn’t matter how these two days are spaced out.
Can I continue training beyond 20 days? What will happen to my IQ then?
Many people continue training beyond the 20 day training program – particularly if they are interested in pushing the boundaries of their own cognitive potential, or maintaining high brain fitness levels. There is little research on what the limit of IQ gains are through training. Fluid intelligence gains exceeding 40% may be possible, we don’t know. The benefits of continuing training periodically – and at a lower intensity – beyond your 20 day’s training are probably better seen as a way of maintaining your IQ gains over long periods of time.
Does the IQ gain depend on my starting IQ level?
Regardless of your starting IQ level (low, average or high), you will benefit from training. As reported in the original research paper demonstrating the IQ gains: “It is important to note that the gain in fluid intelligence is strictly training related and not due to preexisting individual differences in intelligence.” To find out your current IQ level, click here.
Can I get this training for my kids who are in high school to help them get to university?
This training is perfect for senior high school students who are preparing for college / university entrance exams.
If English is not my native language can I use this software? Will it affect how I perform?
The training exercise has a visual and an audio component. Language is not needed for the visual component. For the audio, you simply need to recognize and remember for brief periods 8 distinct-sounding English letters. There is no language comprehension required. If you can tell the sound of a ‘T’ apart from an ‘S’, then you can use the software and your performance will not suffer.
